It is necessary to brand, castrate and tag young calves. You can learn the traditional bush methods of throwing a calf and holding it securely while these tasks are being performed. There is definitely a trick to it, you have to avoid being thrown by the calf for a start! This activity is great fun and can provide a lot of laughs, so make sure you have your camera ready.

Where does milk come from? Definitely not the supermarket! At Leconfield the cows aren't just for looking at, they are an integral part of the farm. Our cows supply us with several litres of milk per day, the only problem is that someone has to get up nice and early to get it! After a lesson on the first day, everyone has a chance to milk the cows, and the competition to gather the most milk is fierce. |

![]() Once the sheep have been rounded up and yarded back near the homestead, it is the students turn to learn how to draft, drench and shear them. The shearing involves 'wigging' and 'crutching' them. Once this is finished, the sheep are mustered back in to their own paddock. |
