Leconfield Jackaroo and Jillaroo School - 11 days of adventure!
Meet the man behind it all

Brian Skerrett

Brian Skerrett has lived on Leconfield all his life. The property has been in his family for almost 100 years. For 25 years Brian ran a very successful Poll Hereford cattle stud, breeding the bull that sired the Grand Champion Bull at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. A thoroughbred stud was run on the property for several years. The Skerrett Family has always been involved with horses and horse activities.

Brian played Polo for 25 years, he has a granddaughter who is currently considered to be the number one female Polo player in Australia. Brian has three grown children and ten grandchildren. Brian's daughter and his younger son are also active in horse related tourism. Jillian, Brian's daughter, has her own web page which you can see here.

Brian is still active in the daily workings of the property and during schools can be seen on one of his favourite horses heading out on a muster with his students to the beckoning hills and valleys. He has also been known to enter into the social side of the school and join in the party atmosphere of the last night.

Twenty-three years ago Brian started the Jillaroo/Jackaroo school, the first of its kind in Australia. Since then, thousands of people from all over the world have come to the school, and most of them agree it was the best thing they have ever done. You can see some comments here.

The school gives Australians and visitors from overseas a chance to learn how to become a Jillaroo/Jackaroo (Cowboy or Cowgirl) and also the experience of life on an Australian outback station.
